We do suggest that you take time to regularly read with your child at home and ask some questions about the text. Here are some questions that you can ask to help improve your child's reading and understanding for both fiction and nonfiction books:
What is YOUR role as the parent when reading with your child?
While reading with your child, your goal is to help build their confidence in reading and help them to use cues from the text. Cues use to decode a word can come from meaning (does it make sense?), syntax (does it sound right?), and visually (does it look right?)

One finally way you can help them practice their reading is by having your child read to you from the Raz-Kids website (click the picture below). They can also use this program to practice reading on their own if it does not work well to read with them.
Having trouble logging in to Raz-Kids? Click on the logo below and sign-in with your child's account name (this information is stapled into their agenda). Once you are logged in, choose any book to read with your child.
